Kampi congressman Pablo Garcia, who earlier pushed for a speakership bid, is not even nominated. | | Sept. 18, 2007 | De Venecia’s son, Joey, identifies First Gentleman Mike Arroyo as the “mystery man” in the national broadband network project. Joey claims Arroyo told him to “back off” from the project. | | Sept. 22, 2007 | President Arroyo suspends the national broadband network project. | | Oct. 2, 2007 | First Gentleman Mike Arroyo denies that he told Joey de Venecia to back off from the National Broadband Network deal. President Arroyo, while on a state visit to China, cancels the NBN deal with ZTE Corp. | | Oct. 10, 2007 | Lawyer Ruel Pulido files an ethics complaint against De Venecia for violating Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act after he managed to obtain a legislative franchise from Congress in 1995 for a company represented by Joey in 1993. | | Oct. 23, 2007 | Joey de Venecia accuses three high-ranking government officials of plotting to kill him. Jose de Venecia said he is confident he would remain as speaker despite the decision of 14 congressmen from the LP-Drilon wing to support Prospero Nograles. | Feb. 4, 2008 | In a privilege speech, De Venecia accuses members of the First Family of various wrongdoings. He accuses the First Gentleman of plotting his ouster as Speaker, the President’s sons of hoarding the pork barrel, the Palace of rigging the bidding for the Transmission Corporation, Arroyo supporter Enrique Razon of controlling the pork barrel and the release of the congressmen’s share on road users tax. He also says that "there were many attempts to tamper with the results of 2004 elections." | | Feb. 5, 2008 | De Venecia is unseated as the House Speaker. Voting 174-35 with 16 abstentions after a nine-hour session, members of the House of Representative elected De Venecia’s party mate Prospero Nograles as the new Speaker. Earlier that night, the House voted to declare the seat of the House Speaker vacant |
