Is St. Benilde the same as DLSU? Print E-mail

Chief Justice Reynato Puno (center) with some Society for Judicial Excellence (SJE) members

We’re asking because, in the course of our research for a story on Chief Justice Reynato Puno, we checked on his sons and what their businesses may be. In Puno’s curriculum vitae, he lists his sons, Reynato Jr. and Emmanuel, as graduates of De La Salle University and both are now engaged in their own businesses.

We checked with the De La Salle Alumni Association and they couldn’t find the names of Reynato and Emmanuel Puno in their database, yearbooks, and in their online verification system. They suggested that we check the De La Salle College of St. Benilde (DLS-CSB).

We did and, indeed, they are alumni of the DLS-College of St. Benilde. The Web site of DLS-CSB says that they are one of the 18 schools that comprise the De La Salle system in the Philippines. Among the 18 schools are DLSU-Manila, De La Salle Araneta University, DLSU-Dasmariñas, De La Salle Canlubang, and De La Salle Lipa.

St. Benilde started out as a community or night school for working students based in DLSU-Manila. It’s distinct from the university from across Taft Avenue.

So, there, we got the answer to our question.

The Inside Track is Newsbreak's intelligencer section. It features the latest buzz on juicy political and business goings on.
