ABOUT

While human trafficking issues are reported in the Philippine media, there seems to be a dearth of news stories on the link between corruption and trafficking of persons. Thus this special project of Newsbreak and The Asia Foundation , which aims to put anti-trafficking issues in the agenda of policy and decision-makers.

The project is two-pronged: first, a Newsbreak special publication that will consist of in-depth and investigative stories addressing the institutional weaknesses that pave the way for groups to traffic persons and second, an online data base on human trafficking that will contain stories, relevant data, images, and full interviews with victims, government officials, experts, and activists.

Newsbreak will also be hosting an online forum on trafficking, which can be used to track down policy developments at the national and local government levels, as well as in the non-government sector. Various non-government organizations play an equally crucial role in addressing the problems on human trafficking and we will encourage them to join us in our online forum. We hope that the online forum will not only increase public awareness of the issue of trafficking in persons but also be a venue to strengthen the collaboration of government agencies and NGOs to address this issue.

This special project is under The Asia Foundation’s program on Increasing Information, Communication, and Collaboration to Prevent Domestic and International Trafficking of Filipinos to Protect Victims. The program aims to prevent trafficking of Filipino women, children and men and protect victims within and across borders.
