The conflict in
Mindanao has been with us for the last four
decades. It begs asking why peace remains
elusive.
Newsbreak has been doing in-depth stories on
Mindanao since 2001. We have looked at the
armed groups based there and the peace efforts
that have succeeded and failed. We have
closely monitored the ongoing peace talks
between the government and the Moro Islamic
Liberation Front. More importantly, we have
assessed the impact of the peace pact signed
by the Moro National Liberation Front with the
government in the 1990s.
Our archives on
Mindanao and the peace processes there are
worth looking into again as we witness another
series of military encounters between rebel
groups and soldiers in Muslim provinces in the
region.
In
the succeeding weeks, we shall be building a
database on the various facets of
peacebuilding in Mindanao.

processes in Mindanao, click on the titles
